Black and blue

This is too tragically beautiful not to put here. The funny thing is that the song itself isn’t even a sad one, but Lea Michele’s pain and misery emanates so strongly in the lyrics and her voice that it’s impossible to listen to this without shedding a tear (I bawled).

I used to think that I knew what it felt like to love someone so completely and unconditionally that nothing would ever make me turn away from them and give up on them just because I couldn’t get what I want. And yet, turn away and give up I did, and I went on to waste the next three and a half years of my life on something that I realized, a little too late, would never come to anything good.

But now — now — I can say I truly know what it means to love someone against all principles, all judgment, and all odds. To look past their flaws and whatever unfortunate circumstances their lives come with, and still wake up and say, “I would do this.”

When the rain is blowing in your face
And the whole world is on your case
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love

When the evening shadows and the stars appear
And there’s no one there to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love

I know you haven’t made your mind up yet
But I would never do you wrong
I’ve known it from the moment that we met
No doubt in my mind where you belong

I’d go hungry, I’d go black and blue
I’d go crawling down the avenue
No, there’s nothing that I wouldn’t do
To make you feel my love

The storms are raging on the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret
The winds of change are blowing wild and free
You ain’t seen nothing like me yet

I could make you happy, make your dreams come true
Nothing that I wouldn’t do
Go to the ends of the Earth for you
To make you feel my love
